Stinger Anchor
You know the old saying, “build a better mousetrap and…” Well, that’s exactly what we did, only we built a better anchor. The Stinger Silent Precision Anchor (Patent Pending) is an amazing breakthrough for anchoring small watercraft simply, easily, silently, precisely, and reliably. Plus, unlike all other anchors, it’s fun to use!
What is the Stinger Silent Precision Anchor? As can be seen above, it’s an anchoring system that obsoletes the old fashioned weight and rope. It has been used in upper Michigan, coastal Virginia, Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, and Texas to name a few states, on slow lazy rivers, small lakes, coastal estuaries, flats, and marshes. One of our customers even drops the Stinger a few inches to anchor on the floating masses of hyacinth while he casts to the holes on those giant weed mats.
For you folks who already stand and stalk in small boats like kayaks, you’ll find the Stinger, when lowered, adds an amazing amount of front-to-back and overall stability allowing you to sit down, stand up, cast a flyrod, or fight a fish without as much front-to-back and overall instability which remains with an anchor and rope or push pole and rope. Even getting in and out of a kayak is easier, when standing in the water, as you can “push back” against the Stinger tip as it rests on the bottom. No more chasing the boat around trying to get in it.
To use the Stinger, simply STOP THE BOAT, uncleat the control rope, and lower the Stinger until the telescoping tip rests on the bottom under it’s own weight, and drags a few inches due to wind, current, or tide. The dragging friction of the tip quickly stops the Stinger tip, holding the boat precisely in position. No need for “driving” the tip of the Stinger into the bottom, either by pushing it in yourself, or by a complex or expensive system. It’s all about focusing the natural weight of the Stainless rod to a small diameter tip which increases the pound per square inch. We simply use gravity, like all anchors – with a novel twist! And, unlike other anchors lifting the Stinger is incredibly easy with two fingers and a thumb. Our simple pulley and cleat system is all you need as the Stinger weighs a fraction of most old fashioned anchors.
The Stinger is gorgeous. Be prepared for people to stop you and ask you about it. Shown here is our Premium Stern Mount Kayak Anchor, made from corrosion proof anodized aluminum, stainless steel, and neoprene, installed with aircraft type rivets, and thoroughly tested by a quality and reliability engineer – the Stinger will last you a lifetime of normal use. The Stinger was designed by us, mostly for our guiding activities, to solve all the problems created by the old fashioned anchor and rope or push poles. We found the old fashioned anchor to be heavy, noisy, rarely held position, dirty, caused silt clouds, sometimes permanently snagged, and tore up the bottom of lakes and rivers. Further, we didn’t care for the problems with push poles, being the instability caused by pushing them in, and pulling them out, the surface disturbance (waves), or the muck and dirt, or the storage problems.
Conversely, the Stinger is ultra-light, silent, precise, clean, silt-less, snag-less, and ecological. It works a the variety of river currents, bottom composition, winds, tidal currents, etc., in depths up to 4 feet. The Stinger stores itself outside the boat instantly when you raise it.
The Stinger is elegantly simple, very few moving parts, easy to install, and more importantly a pleasure to use! No more passing up good cover because you just don’t want to put that clumbsy anchor or pole down again. Our kayak Stinger can be raised and lowered in a couple of seconds with two fingers and a thumb while facing forward in the boat. Raise and lower it 100 times a fishing trip if you want. You won’t care.
The Stinger is available in several sizes to fit small to large inflatable pontoon boats, kayaks, canoes, johnboats, and even large “driftboats” and other watercraft. While designed to fit on the end of most boats, we also make a Sidemount Stinger to mount on the rail for boats with rudders. The Stinger and and cleat install on your boat in less than 10 minutes. Shore setup is about 2 minutes, and so is shore takedown and storage…it couldn’t be simpler.
