Kayaks

Kayaks are a wonderful way to enjoy our waterways.  Sometimes called the “off road vehicle for the water”, you can go just about anywhere with them.  Many of our clients have purchased them to bird-watch, fish, or just plain “water hike” with friends, family, or in solitude through some of the most wild parts of our local rural areas.

If you visit us, we promise to help you chose the kayak you need, get you the right gear to go with it, and even get you to the best kayak school if you like.  The best is Quiet World Sports in Jackson, Michigan.  See them at  www.quietworldsports.com, or better yet, go see them and say hi for us while you’re there.

Whether you purchase your kayak from us or not,  you’ve got to do your homework and think about all the things you might want to do…it’s the only way anyone can be sure to get you on the right program.  If this is not your kayak dealer’s first focus and concern, find another dealer.

Hey!  Check this out…we recently decided to become the #1 kayak fishing outfitter in the Midwest.   We’ve already got a wonderful fishing store and we sell terrific fishing kayaks…so we’re going to marry the two, and do for kayak fishing what we’ve done for circle hooks.

Circle hooks are very popular in saltwater to almost eliminate killing fish from sportfishing.  We proven they are just as effective for fresh water, and are promoting them everywhere (see “circle hooks” this website).

Well, kayak fishing is very popular in saltwater, too, so…..you got it!  We’re going to prove it to be a wonderful thing for freshwater lakes and rivers.  We already fish out of them ourselves, even run guided fishing trips in kayaks, but we’ve got to convince the public.  That’s OK, we’re up for it.

Speaking of the public, a bit about kayaking manners.  From time to time, you will undoubtedly come in contact with other anglers on a river.  Please be as quiet and paddle as calmly as possible as you approach, and pass close to shore behind the angler, where they are not fishing, or ask which side they would prefer you pass.  If in a group, get single file and pass close to shore on the side the angler is not fishing.  Try not to disturb the other persons environment at all, if possible.

If meeting another angler on a lake or pond, follow sort of the same rules.  Stay hundreds of yards (two football fields) away, quiet down, and pass discreetly.  Let’s face it.  Most people who are out fishing or recreating in the outdoors are there to get away from people,  and the noise and irritation they cause.   So keep away, quiet down, and make sure you don’t disrupt the other persons solitude and quiet.  Hopefully someone will show you the same respect someday.
