About Drake
Drake is our 8 year old Golden Retriever….you got it, the store is, and will always be named after him, and if you ever meet him you’ll know why. Drake came to us through a rescue situation when he was about 2 years old. Scared, skinny, and obviously abused, it took a while to feed him up to a decent weight, get him on all the right meds, (thanks to Dr. Diehre, Millpond Animal Hospital - Pinckney, MI) and revive his pride.
Alot of disciplined training got Drake thinking well of himself again, and now he’s a happy guy. Drake was and is with us every second as we build the store, even though you know he’s sometimes bored and would rather be out for a walk in the park or chasing something. Sometimes we feel bad that we can’t take him to do all the outside fun stuff he deserves, like running through the woods or swimming in ice water. He’s one of the kindest, coolest dogs you’ll ever see. Laid back, too. Occasionally after about his 20th belly rub, he’ll lay on his back with his legs up for 15 minutes or more. Alot of people will comment they’d like to have his life, but we just tell them to get in line.
He’s also a fishing idiot. Doesn’t matter how tired you are, every end of the day finds him sitting on the dock next to the boat until you give up and go. And he knows the sound of a reel drag, or the splash of a take. Fixated on the fight the entire time, Drake asks only one lick when the fish is landed, then quickly loses interest as you release it. If he doesn’t get a lick, you’ll pay… superstitious or not, I’ve seen fishing come to a grinding halt because I forgot to give him his fish lick.
These days Drake is a little less active, a little whiter in the face, but still doing great, greeting the kids (his favorite) and everyone who comes in. Though we’d like to grab him and hold him back from father time, the only thing we really control is how well we take care of him…and for Drake, that is nothing but the best.
